Discrimination results
$200,000 verdict for race discrimination — Albert Brown v. Mississippi Department of Health
A unanimous jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Brown on his race discrimination claim. He alleged that he was denied a promotion because he is Black.
$195,000 settlement with Jackson/Hinds Library System
In April 2022, Patricia Furr resolved her case against the Jackson/Hinds Library System for $195,000.
Ms. Furr alleged that she was denied due process before termination under state law. She also alleged that she was terminated because of her race and age.

$425,000 jury verdict for retaliation — Brown v. Mississippi Department of Health
A unanimous jury returned a verdict in favor of Mr. Brown on his retaliation claim. He alleged that he was denied a promotion because he had previously pursued a race discrimination case against his employer.
$114,847 jury verdict for retaliation — Schaeffer v. Warren County, Mississippi
The plaintiff worked as a boat captain and alleged that he was terminated after complaining about overtime wages.
$100,000 jury verdict for sexual harassment and retaliation — Jackson-Hall v. Moss Point School District
Mrs. Tonya Jackson-Hall alleged that she was terminated from her position as principal after refusing sexual advances by the superintendent of the school district where she worked.
Harassment results
$200,000 jury verdict for racial harassment — Joseph Conner v. Illinois Central Railroad
The plaintiff alleged that he was subjected to a hostile work environment based on race.
Overtime and wage results
$1.6 million settlement for overtime — Harris, et al. v. Hinds County Sheriff’s Department
Non-managerial employees of the sheriff’s department collectively pursued overtime wage claims and resolved the matter with a $1.6 million settlement.
$1 million settlement for overtime claims — Dixon, et al. v. Hibbett Sports
Assistant managers in a nationwide collective action alleged that they were not properly paid overtime wages. The matter resolved with a $1 million settlement.
Other employment-related results
$6.4 million judgment — Rader, et al. v. Bruister, et al.
The plaintiffs pursued claims related to ERISA and alleged that retirement-plan funds had been handled improperly.
$382,000 jury verdict — Taylor-Travis v. Jackson State University
This matter involved claims for breach of contract and invasion of privacy brought by a women’s basketball coach.
